When it comes to reality shows questions are always raised when it comes to how real and authentic they are, and obviously people are always wondering about the Real Housewives. With table flips, cat fights, and intense drama sometimes it is hard for people to believe that these events actually happen, but producer Andy Cohen dishes about the reality of the famous franchise to Attitude Magazine.
“It’s real, we as very highly volatile, emotional, driven, and opinionated women, and because of that they go to town! And you sit down with them at the end of the season and they all have it out with each other… It’s really fun.” And when the drama intensifies and the women go at it? “You know sometimes it just gets really personal about their family. The show works so well because it’s all people who have long histories with each other. So it’s not just throwing people together in a Big Brother house and seeing what happens.”
Andy also tells the magazine how the shows began, the original city being Orange County as he was approached in SoCal when he was the head of programming for Bravo. “[They] said, ‘I have neighbors and their boobs are bigger and their hair is blonder and they have these huge houses, and they’re unlike anything you’ve ever seen before,” he claims. “It was the beginning of the Real Housewives of Orange County, and in my mind I thought, ‘Well this could be like a modern soap opera,’ and that’s really what it’s become.”
