Real Housewives of New York City star Bethenny Frankel appeared on Watch What Happens Live Tuesday night to discuss her return to the show, give her opinions about her cast mates and also shared what she knows about Kyle and Kim Richards’ complex relationship.
First, Andy asks Bethenny to respond to Terry Dubrow’s comments that she is too thin. “There’s been a whole thing lately with skinny-shaming and Kelly Clarkson with body-shaming and Giuliana Rancic… I’m not going to be like ‘Oh god, people think I’m skinny, why me?’ He didn’t mean it, it’s a joke. Everyone is very, very sensitive and I think that people that are overweight have a reason to be sensitive about it. I am thin… I have a brand called Skinnygirl. It’s okay if he thinks I’m thin.”
Next, Andy asks Bethenny for her opinion about the Richards sister’s feud. “Wow. I mean I’ve really known them for about twenty five years. First of all, I can’t imagine bringing a family member on this show. I mean you have it on Jersey… it’s gnarly. There are deep seeded things there that have gone on for years.”
Andy asks if Kyle and Kim have always been at odds. “I think there have always been some nuances. You’re talking about three girls. There’s Kathy, Kim and Kyle…”
Andy asks what Bethenny thinks the core issue between Kim and Kyle is. “They’re in a town where money and attention and fame are really prevalent and I think it’s like an alternative universe. There living this, but then they’re also living it in the press, on Instagram, on Twitter, it’s a really really murky and I don’t know how they’re going to get out of it. Being on television together… it doesn’t seem like it’s going in a good direction.”
The first caller asks Bethenny about the comments she made in the first episode about being homeless. “I understand about being on this show I open myself up to scrutiny. I said I was the wealthiest homeless person. It was a pun. I don’t actually think I’m homeless. I donate a lot of money to Dress For Success and help a lot of woman who would be homeless or who have been homeless with the money I make from Skinnygirl. The truth is, I say things and that’s why I was put on the show. If I filter and edit then you would never like me. So you can’t win and you can’t please everybody. I don’t think I’m homeless. I have money but I’ve gone through a very personal, difficult situation in not having any stability or consistency or room that’s regular for my daughter. For personal reasons I couldn’t buy a place, rent a place, I can’t explain why… this is my situation and no matter how many Benjamins I have, my pain is just as real as yours.”
Andy asks Bethenny what she thought of Heather Thomson telling her she owes LuAnn a car for helping her create the Skinnygirl Margarita. “It was the first scene I did with everybody and that was the first thing she said to me. It was an awkward moment. I was like… do I just give out rolexes to people now?”
